John Boler
(1934-2016)
Founder of The Boler Company

John M. Boler (1934-2016)  was the Founder of The Boler Company headquartered in Itasca, Ill. Hendrickson is an operating group within The Boler Company.

Founded in 1977, The Boler Company used an asset-based lending technique, which was a forerunner to the leveraged buyout, to acquire a small vendor to the transportation industry. Ultimately, Boler made eight acquisitions the largest of which was Hendrickson.

Boler began his business career with Clevite Corp., later acquired by Gould, Inc., where he was named vice president of international.

A native of Marion, Ohio, Boler earned a business degree from John Carroll University in Cleveland, Ohio. Later he remained active with John Carroll University, where he served as a trustee.

Boler was a member of the board of trustees of Chicago’s Rush University Medical Center, co-chair of the Heart and Vascular Committee and a member of the Anchor Cross Society, a philanthropic organization supporting the hospital. Boler served as chairman of the board of trustees of the former American Cancer Society Foundation. He was deeply involved in the fights against cancer and heart disease, the nation’s leading killers, both of which have afflicted his family members and employees.

Boler met the former Mary Jo Lombardo, his wife of 52 years, while they were attending college. For many years they worked side-by-side on philanthropic endeavors. They have received honorary degrees from John Carroll University (1996) and St. Joseph's College in Rensselaer, Ind., and Ursuline College in Pepper Pike, Ohio (2001).

Matthew J. Boler

Matthew J. Boler serves as president, chief executive officer and chairman of the board of The Boler Company headquartered in Itasca, Ill., Hendrickson is an operating group within The Boler Company.

Elevated from the post of vice president of corporate development for The Boler Company, Matt Boler previously served as general manager of Hendrickson Bumper and Trim located in Joliet, Ill. and director of strategic planning for The Boler Company.

Prior to joining the organization, he held various positions of increasing responsibility in manufacturing and engineering with Motorola.

Boler earned master’s degrees in business administration and engineering management from the Kellogg and McCormick schools at Northwestern University at Evanston, Ill., and holds a bachelor of science degree in mechanical engineering from University of Notre Dame at Notre Dame, Ind.

Matt Joy
President and Chief Executive Officer


Matt Joy serves as president and chief executive officer of Hendrickson, headquartered in Woodridge, Ill. He has complete responsibility for managing the Hendrickson business on a global basis.

Joy most recently served as chief operating officer. He was responsible for all the Hendrickson Divisions:  Truck Commercial Vehicle Systems, Trailer Commercial Vehicle Systems, Specialty Products, and International Operations. 

Joy’s tenure at Hendrickson has included: vice president and general manager of Truck Commercial Vehicle Systems, vice president of Specialty Products, and vice president of Finance.

Prior to joining Hendrickson, Joy worked at International Truck and Engine in the Corporate Controller’s office.

Joy earned both his MBA and Bachelors of Science in Accountancy degrees from DePaul University, Chicago, IL.

Andrew Martin Vice President of International Operations

Andrew Martin serves as the Vice President of International Operations, out of Melbourne, Australia. He is responsible for coordinating and managing our businesses throughout Asia, the Pacific and Europe. Martin joined Hendrickson in 1995 as Product Support & Quality Manager. In 1997 he was promoted to Engineering Manager followed by tenure as the Managing Director of our Asia Pacific business.

Martin is a Fellow of the Australian Institute of Management is also a member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors. He earned a master’s degree in Business Administration (Technology Management) and a Post Graduate Diploma in Business (Management) - both from Deakin University, as well as double bachelor’s degrees in Mechanical and Computing Engineering with Distinction from Monash University and a Diploma of Company Directorship.

Richard Mudd Vice President/General Manager Trailer Commercial Vehicle Systems Richard Mudd serves as vice president and general manager of Trailer Commercial Vehicle Systems, headquartered in Canton, Ohio. His responsibilities include all business unit functions, including manufacturing, purchasing, marketing, quality assurance, accounting, engineering and human resources.
Mudd most recently held the position of vice president and general manager of Truck Commercial Vehicle Systems, headquartered in Woodridge, Illinois; prior to that, he served as vice president of operations and Specialty Products Group at Hendrickson. In addition, Mudd leads the Manufacturing Excellence team.  

Mudd joined Hendrickson in 1998 as a production manager and has since served as plant manager and director of operations for all Hendrickson truck and spring facilities. He is a long-standing contributor to the Hendrickson Manufacturing Excellence Team.

Before to joining Hendrickson, Mudd held positions with AmBrake / Akebono Corporation, Toyota - Interior Division, Toyota Production Systems and Fruit of the Loom Operations.
 
He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from Campbellsville University in Kentucky.

David Madonia Vice President, Finance

Dave serves as Vice President of Finance for Hendrickson headquartered in Woodridge, Ill. He has a strong financial reporting and analysis discipline which he has applied to our operating units.

In 2005, Dave became the Director of Financial Planning and Analysis for the Boler Company and has most recently held the role of Director of Finance for the Truck Commercial Vehicle Systems.

Dave holds an MBA from Capital University in Columbus, Ohio, and a bachelor’s degree from Walsh College in Troy, Michigan.

Kevin Mullinax Vice President, Purchasing Kevin Mullinax serves as Vice President of Purchasing for Hendrickson. He is responsible for ensuring that we have a coordinated, collaborative approach to procuring commodities for our products across all Hendrickson businesses. He provides guidance to the purchasing teams in Truck, Trailer, and Specialty Products to enhance our ability to qualify suppliers, purchase cost-effective materials, and assess our suppliers’ reliability and delivery performance. In addition, he provides expertise to global purchasing initiatives and will lead the Purchasing Excellence team.

Kevin joined Hendrickson in 1999 as a Senior Buyer for Truck and has since been promoted several times into roles of increasing responsibility. In 2006 he advanced to Director of Purchasing at Truck. He joined our organization from Case Corporation, where he was a buyer/planner and corporate purchasing/commodity engineer.

Kevin holds a bachelor’s degree in engineering from the University of Michigan, a master’s degree in engineering from Marquette University, and is also a Certified Purchasing Manager (CPM). In addition he served in the U.S. Navy on active duty for six years, obtaining the rank of Lieutenant.

Rence Oliphant Vice President of Global Sales Rence Oliphant serves as vice president of global sales for Hendrickson headquartered in Woodridge, Ill. His responsibilities includes establishing sales targets and objectives to meet company goals and developing strategic sales plans based on company objectives that promote sales growth while focusing on customer needs. In addition, Rence oversees the Hendrickson sales staff and collaborates with Marketing to better understand buyer personas and increase customer acquisitions.

Oliphant most recently served as senior director of North American sales for Hendrickson. Oliphant joined Hendrickson in 1995 from a sales position at Volvo Trucks. He began his career at Hendrickson as a District Sales Manager and has since been promoted several times and previously served as Senior Director of North American Sales for Hendrickson.

Oliphant received his bachelor’s degree from the University of North Carolina and is also a participant in Hendrickson’s Business Leader Development program.

Gerry Remus Vice President/General Manager Truck Commercial Vehicle Systems

Gerry Remus serves as vice president and general manager of Hendrickson’s Truck Commercial Vehicle Systems, headquartered in Woodridge, IL.   His responsibilities encompass all business unit functions, including manufacturing operations, purchasing, finance, program management, sales & marketing, engineering, and human resources.

Since 2017, Remus has served as general manager of sales and business development.  His responsibilities focused on overall customer relationships and business growth with oversight of the OEM sales & marketing functions.  In addition, he had responsibility for the growth and development of the elastomer, specialty, composite, and bus/RV business units.  He serves on the board of directors for Hendrickson’s joint venture in India, a post he has held since 2015.  

Remus joined Hendrickson as a sales associate in 2000, serving in several positions of increasing responsibility, including Strategic Account Manager, Marketing Manager, Business Unit Director, Director of OEM Sales, and Director of Marketing. 

Remus holds a bachelor’s degree in business management from Eastern Illinois University and an MBA from Baker University.

Tom Ryan Vice President, Information Technology

Tom Ryan joined Hendrickson in 2020. Prior to coming to Hendrickson, he served as Senior Vice President and Chief Information Officer of Molex LLC a Chicago based Global Electronics Manufacturing firm from 2014 through 2020 and prior to that he served as Director of Information Technology – Europe for Molex.  He is responsible for Enterprise Business and Engineering  Applications, Digital Services, Network Infrastructure, Operations and Information Security.
 
Tom holds a degree in Civil Engineering from the Limerick Institute of Technology.

Jeff Sass Vice President, Marketing Jeff Sass serves as vice president of marketing for Hendrickson headquartered in Woodridge, Ill. His responsibilities include leading Hendrickson’s marketing initiatives, identifying new opportunities, creating and implementing integrated business strategies for product roadmaps and brands. Jeff will also oversee marketing and communications and collaborate with Sales as he leads our Voice of the Customer efforts, increasing our customer focused goals.
 
Sass most recently served as Senior Vice President, North American Sales & Marketing for Navistar. Prior to that, he held several leadership positions at PACCAR, including National Sales Manager of Peterbilt for PACCAR Parts. Jeff was also Director of Marketing, Planning and Research at Kenworth Truck Company.

Sass received his bachelor’s degree from the University of Oregon and an MBA in Marketing from Seattle University.

Matt Van Meter Vice President/General Manager Hendrickson Specialty Products Group Matt Van Meter serves as vice president and general manager of Hendrickson Specialty Products Group, headquartered in Woodridge, Illinois. The Specialty Products Group consists of Hendrickson Auxiliary Axle, Hendrickson Bumper & Trim, and Watson & Chalin Manufacturing Company.

Van Meter most recently served as the Truck General Manager of Engineering and Operations in Woodridge, IL. He began his career with Hendrickson Trailer in 1998 as a Test Engineer and held various position such as Engineering Manager, Director of Product Validation Trailer, then moved into the Truck group as Senior Engineering Manager, Chief Engineer.

His technical successes most recently have been leading the OPTIMAAX product development team, restructuring the manufacturing engineering organization for Truck and has received several patent awards for Truck and Trailer. 

Matt graduated from The Ohio State University with a bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering.

Jeff Wittlinger Vice President/General Manager, Brake and Wheel-End Group

 Jeff Wittlinger serves as vice president and general manager of Hendrickson’s Brake and Wheel-End Group, headquartered in Canton, Ohio.  The Wheel End and Brake Division consist of MotorWheel, LLC, Wheel End and Brakes, Specialty Axle, and Controls.

Jeff previously held the position of General manager, Trailer Axle and Brakes, where he was responsible for product strategy and new business development.

Jeff became plant manager of the Trailer plant in Somerset, KY., in 2007 after holding a broad range of manufacturing engineering and operations positions for the Hendrickson Trailer Commercial Vehicles Systems.

Wittlinger graduated from Cleveland State University with a bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering.

Jeff Zawacki Vice President Advanced Technology Group Jeff Zawacki serves as vice president of the Advanced Technology Group (ATG) at Hendrickson, located in Woodridge, Illinois.  His responsibilities include developing new business opportunities through leveraging technologies and manufacturing processes and working with the divisions to turn new technologies into viable products and processes.

Zawacki joined ATG in 2011 as executive director of Business Development.  Zawacki’s career with Hendrickson began in 1994 and he has since served as general manager of the Bumper and Trim Division and held numerous positions in quality, operations, marketing and product development throughout the organization.

Zawacki holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from GMI Engineering and Management Institute (currently Kettering University) and a Masters of Business Administration from Benedictine University.

Dean Zimmerman Vice President, Human Resources

Dean Zimmerman serves as vice president of human resources (HR) for Hendrickson, headquartered in Woodridge, IL. His responsibilities include providing strategic direction for the company’s HR initiatives and leading organizational change. Dean also leads the assimilation of new businesses, leadership development, performance development, execution of human resource systems and the company-wide HR Excellence Team.

Dean started his Hendrickson career in 2006 by accepting a HR role at the Mitchell, SD facility. Dean returned to his home town in Canton, OH in 2012 to serve as division HR manager for the Trailer Commercial Vehicle system group and then in 2014 moved to the Lebanon, IN facility as HR manager. In 2017 Dean accepted the director of human resources for the Truck Commercial Vehicle system group in Woodridge, IL.

Zimmerman earned a Masters of Management degree in human resources from The University of Akron and Bachelor of Science degree in business administration and a Bachelor of Arts degree in history from Ohio Northern University. He also holds a graduate certificate in occupational safety and health from Eastern Kentucky University.

International Managing Directors

Helfried Jelinek General Managing Director of Hendrickson Commercial Vehicle Systems Europe

Helfried Jelinek serves as General Managing Director of Hendrickson Commercial Vehicle Systems Europe. He is responsible for leading all functional areas of business for the Spring & Stabilizer division in Europe. Jelinek joined Hendrickson Europe in January 2015 as General Managing Director within the Spring & Stabilizer business.
 
Prior to joining Hendrickson, Jelinek served at Frauenthal Automotive where he was responsible for an automotive business unit in Europe. He was promoted several times from the finance department to recently as general managing director. He has a certified controller diploma as well as a commercial high school diploma and specialized training at St.Gallen Business School in Switzerland.

Mohit Khosla Managing Director, Hendrickson India Mohit Khosla serves as Chief Executive Officer of Hendrickson India, responsible for key aspects of Hendrickson’s business strategy and activity in India.

His responsibilities include all aspects of activities including manufacturing, purchasing, marketing, quality assurance, accounting, engineering and human resources for the axle fabrication, trailer and spring business in India.
Mohit came to Hendrickson from American Axle & Manufacturing India. Mohit has also worked with Black & Veatch Corporation USA, in increasing capacities in global locations across Asia, Middle East and North America and with Bajaj Tempo Limited, a major OEM in India

Mohit earned a Bachelor’s degree from College of Engineering, Pune, India and Master’s of Science in Engineering Management from State University of New York, USA.

James Parr Managing Director, Hendrickson UK

James Parr serves as managing director for Hendrickson UK. He is responsible for leading all functional areas of Hendrickson’s business in the UK as well as supporting all growth and project initiatives. James came to Hendrickson from Xandor Automotive, where he served as Plant Manager. Previously he held positions of responsibility within JCB and Kongsberg Automotive in various capacities, from Plant Management to Global Project Management roles.

James earned a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from Staffordshire University and is currently progressing with his MBA from Sheffield Hallam University.

Zhonghou Zhao Managing Director, Hendrickson China

Zhonghou Zhao serves as managing director for China. He is responsible for leading all functional areas of Hendrickson’s business in China as well as supporting all growth initiatives. Zhao came to Hendrickson from Haldex, China, where he served as deputy general manager. Previously he held positions of increasing responsibility with ArvinMeritor China Commercial Vehicle Systems; Wabco, China and Shandong Mingshui Auto Parts Factory.

Zhao earned a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from Shandong Industry University and an MBA from Australia Southern Cross University.
