Hendrickson Introduces COMFORT AIRTM Rear Suspension for Buses, Motor Homes, and Ambulances
WOODRIDGE, ILLINOIS — Hendrickson, a global designer and manufacturer of suspension systems for medium-duty and heavy-duty vehicles, is launching the COMFORT AIR rear suspension specifically designed for buses, motor homes, and ambulances. This new suspension is now available on Blue Bird school and commercial buses.

"Hendrickson designed the smooth-riding COMFORT AIR with the passenger in mind," according to Doug Sanford, director of marketing, Hendrickson Truck Suspension Systems. "Fleet managers for buses and ambulances know they are transporting people, not cargo. COMFORT AIR offers superior ride and handling for outstanding passenger and driver comfort, as well as vehicle protection."

COMFORT AIR offers the following features to help protect vehicles and equipment from road vibration for reduced maintenance costs, downtime, and enhanced vehicle ride:
  • The design of COMFORT AIR's main support member exhibits lower roll stiffness to give a more compliant ride and enhanced protection from road shocks for passengers, drivers, chassis, and equipment.
  • To further soften the ride, a longer main support member allows the air springs to carry more of the vertical load.
  • A wider frame hanger bracket spreads out road forces over a greater area to help reduce frame stress and increase vehicle life.
  • The horizontal line from the axle to the pivot bushing connection helps generate neutral roll steer characteristics for superior handling.
  • The durable pivot bushing connection provides quiet operation and long service life.
  • The QUIK-ALIGN® axle alignment feature provides easy, more accurate alignment without shims.
  • Hendrickson's lightweight, durable ULTRA ROD® transverse torque rod is an integral component of COMFORT AIR for enhanced handling during cornering and to help maintain lateral axle position.
COMFORT AIR is available in capacities from 15,000 to 23,000 pounds in eight-and-a-half to ten-and-a-half-inch ride heights.

Drawing on its 75-year legacy of innovation, superior design and quality manufacturing, Hendrickson incorporated advanced spring design technology into COMFORT AIR and has proven the suspension's durability in rigorous laboratory and vehicle durability tests.
