Hendrickson Cam Tube System
extends trailer brake life, squeezes out weight
|
CANTON, OH — Hendrickson introduces the Cam Tube System for INTRAAX® and VANTRAAX® – the industry's first standard cam enclosure for trailer brake systems.
Plans call for installation of the Cam Tube System, patent pending, as standard equipment on all INTRAAX and VANTRAAX suspension systems beginning in the spring of 2001. This design enhancement comes at no additional charge to the end user.
"By adding the Cam Tube System to all models in the INTRAAX and VANTRAAX family, Hendrickson substantially extends the durability of the world's most reliable trailer suspension-axle-brake system," reports Gary Ciapetta, marketing director, Hendrickson International, Trailer Suspension Systems.
"Hendrickson recognized that the trailer S-cam bushings end up being a weak link in the maintenance chain, especially considering improved service intervals with HXS® (Hendrickson Extended Service) products including wheel-end packages and brakes.
"The industry widely criticizes standard trailer bushings and seals for poor durability when compared to tractor and truck brakes that use enclosures. Hendrickson solves this problem and at no additional cost to the end user," Ciapetta adds.
Similar to proven tube concepts used on tractors, the Cam Tube System fits 16.5-by-7-inch and 8 5/8-inch brakes and is compatible with standard and HXS brakes on INTRAAX and VANTRAAX suspension-axle-brake systems.
This self-contained, extended service cam tube stretches the life of brake camshafts and bushings to match long-life HXS brake linings and hub assemblies. The Cam Tube System locks out contamination of the S-cam, cam seals and bushings for fleets operating on- highway and in extreme conditions.
Look for the same reliability in the Cam Tube System you find in all Hendrickson components. The tube features glass-reinforced nylon bushings and double-lip seals at both ends and steel construction plated for corrosion resistance. Ozone inhibitors in the seal material extend service life of the rubber.
Hendrickson's Cam Tube System eliminates the inner pair of seals in the current S-cam configuration cutting access points for contaminants in half. In addition, it increases grease volume seven times greatly increasing protection from contaminants.
The Cam Tube System features a single, easily accessible grease fitting, and with the new spider design, trims weight of brake hardware by more than six pounds an axle to make the Hendrickson brake system the lightest in the industry.
In the event of accidental damage to the system, Hendrickson Cam Tube System aftermarket kits will be readily available from trailer dealers and heavy-duty parts outlets with the launch of the system on INTRAAX and VANTRAAX. Modular cartridge design permits simple, fast change out without the welding required by many aftermarket kits.
Fleets looking for long-life components or operating in extreme conditions will find the Cam Tube System a valuable solution. With the growing popularity of extended service brake linings and hubs and the decreasing need for routine maintenance, an unprotected camshaft has the potential of wearing out before other components, especially for trailers hauling in extremely rough terrain.
Proven in the harshest environments, cam tube technology greatly reduces expensive replacement and rebuilding of camshafts and bushings. Also, the perfect alignment of the two bushings sustained by the Cam Tube System further improves the industry-leading responsiveness of INTRAAX and VANTRAAX brakes.
