WOODRIDGE, Ill. – Officials of Hendrickson Truck Suspension Systems announced
the availability of the newly introduced FIREMAAX™ heavy-duty, air-ride
suspension on fire apparatus from Pierce Manufacturing Inc.
Pierce® offers FIREMAAX, which tackles the severe-service requirements of the
fire and rescue industry, on all its chassis offerings, officials reported
during the International Association of Fire Chiefs show in Denver.
“Hendrickson is pleased to announce that Pierce Manufacturing will be offering
FIREMAAX, an innovative suspension that has the stability, handling, ride
quality and durability required for the demanding fire and rescue truck
applications of Pierce customers,” reports Gerry Remus, vocational market
segment manager for Hendrickson Truck Suspension Systems.
Combining a robust design with performance enhancing features, the lightweight
FIREMAAX delivers numerous benefits to firefighting vehicles previously
unavailable in any one emergency vehicle air suspension.
FIREMAAX, a rear air suspension, features the exceptional stability and handling
required for the most punishing fire and rescue applications while providing a
superb ride to protect critical equipment and costly electronic components from
vibration and road shock.
First launched in 2004 and now available in 24- and 27,000-pound single axle and
48- and 54,000-pound tandem axle ratings, FIREMAAX features parallelogram
suspension geometry that reduces roll-steer to improve vehicle handling. This
reduction offers the driver greater control during lane changes, highway ramp
operation and tight road maneuvers.
The unique suspension geometry of FIREMAAX also produces enhanced stability,
which is particularly important for fire and rescue truck applications.
Heavy-duty forged support beams, outboard mounted premium torque rods and a
highly engineered cross brace combine to deliver up to twice the roll stiffness
of other air-ride suspensions.
FIREMAAX delivers numerous maintenance features such as the unique QUIK-ALIGN
system to simplify axle alignment without welding or drop-in shims and air
springs and premium shock absorbers packaged within the envelope of the tire for
additional clearance.
Hendrickson’s premium torque rods employ bonded rubber bushings for longer
service life and elimination of lubrication requirements, while the outboard
mounted longitudinal rods improve serviceability.
