WOODRIDGE, ILLINOIS - Hendrickson officials today announced the availability of
the AIRTEK® integrated front axle and air suspension on Volvo's new VN series
truck models.
These new vehicles feature AIRTEK as the standard front axle and suspension
system on VNL 630, 670 and 780 models. Fleets and owner operators may specify
AIRTEK as an option on small sleeper and day cab VNL models, as well as all VNM
models.
AIRTEK provides significant improvements in both vehicle ride and
handling. Testing demonstrates improvements of up to 21 percent in ride and 19
percent in roll stability when compared to traditional steel spring and I-beam
axle front suspensions. Additionally, AIRTEK is up to 139 pounds lighter than
these suspensions.
"Hendrickson worked closely with Volvo to design and validate the AIRTEK
specifically for the new VN," reports Doug Sanford, Director of Marketing for
Hendrickson Truck Suspension Systems. "The end result is a vehicle that delivers
optimized ride and handling performance that is far superior to traditional
front suspension and axle systems."
AIRTEK is available from Volvo in 12,000-, 12,500-, 13,200- and 14,600- pound
capacities and is standard with unitized wheel ends. The unitized hubs reduce
maintenance intervals and contribute to lowering system weight.
Premium rubber suspension bushings eliminate lubrication requirements, while the
innovative two piece knuckle design simplifies serviceability. Most importantly,
AIRTEK reduces harshness and vibration to the vehicle for possible maintenance
savings.
Volvo introduced the new VN equipped with AIRTEK at the recent vehicle debut
near its Greensboro, N.C., headquarters.
