Lebanon KY Plant to Receive SHARP Safety Certification
On December 17th, following an extensive process of onsite safety and health evaluations, John Lippert with the Kentucky Occupational Safety & Health Administration (KYOSH) recommended Lebanon for SHARP certification. Lebanon becomes the 7th site in Kentucky to attain this certification and only the 18th site to partner with the state in their outreach safety and health programs which includes VPP.

The Safety and Health Achievement Recognition Program (SHARP) recognizes employers who operate an exemplary safety and health management system. KYOSH uses SHARP as a steppingstone to attaining VPP recognition in Kentucky.

"SHARP has brought us closer to achieving our goal of VPP," said Plant Manager Richard Mudd, "The process was very thorough, involving extensive visits from KYOSH inspecting our plant, reviewing our programs and conducting air monitoring. I am proud of our efforts in becoming SHARP certified."

SHARP was designed by the U.S. Department of Labor Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) to encourage and recognize excellence in occupational safety and health among smaller employers. Benefits of attaining SHARP certification includes protection of personnel and company assets, reduction in costs associated with workplace injuries, a two-year exemption from programmed inspection and public acknowledgement of safety efforts.

A formal presentation ceremony will be conducted in early February 2009 with state and local dignitaries. Please join me in congratulating Lebanon for their achievement.
