Mitchell Plant Achieves VPP STAR Recommendation |
On November 20, 2008, the Hendrickson Trailer plant in Mitchell SD was recommended for Voluntary Protection Program (VPP) Star Status through the Occupational Safety and Health Administration. VPP is the most prestigious workplace safety and health recognition program in the U.S., and STAR status is the highest level of recognition.
Brad Baptiste, Region VIII VPP Manager, and his audit team recognized Mitchell employees for their tremendous safety involvement, citing one best practice and over 25 noteworthy items. Some of these items include:
Health and Wellness Systems (Best Practice)
Excellent active, meaningful, and constructive Employee Involvement
Ergonomics
Hazard Identification
5S Program
During the closing meeting Baptiste commented that he normally likes to draw out the process to create suspense, but with this site there was no question what the result would be, "This is a terrific site; we were very pleased with what we found this week. You are definitely one of the elite work places in our region, and there is no question you are a STAR site."
A formal presentation ceremony will be conducted in Mitchell once final approval from the Assistant Secretary of Labor is received.
This achievement is a reflection of the hard work and dedication of every employee at the Mitchell facility. Even though the Mitchell facility has achieved this recognition, they plan to continue their proactive journey towards even greater safety excellence.
Congratulations to everyone at the Mitchell plant for their contributions to this outstanding accomplishment.
