Stratford Achieves First Global Safety Certification
On August 13, 2009, the Hendrickson Stratford plant was the first of Hendrickson’s international sites to be recommended for the Global Safety Excellence (GSX) Star certification. The GSX program was first introduced at the 2007 Safety Excellence Conference as a way for Hendrickson’s international sites to embark on a program mirroring the requirements of the Voluntary Protection Program (VPP).

A cross divisional audit team comprised of Bill McGrath from Canton R&D and Bob and Sharon Brown from Kendallville conducted the GSX Audit. The team commended Stratford for their employees’ exceptional safety involvement and improvement efforts over the last few years. Some of these improvements include:
  • Ergonomic programs focusing on engineering solutions to eliminate manual material handling injuries, a primary driver for injury rate reductions in 2008 and 2009
  • Safety Excellence workbooks containing machine specific lock-out procedures, job safety analysis guides and hazard assessments
  • 5S and lean manufacturing efforts to improve product flow and workplace layout
A formal presentation ceremony will be conducted in Stratford once final approval into the GSX program is received from Gary Gerstenslager, President and CEO of Hendrickson.

Congratulations to everyone at Stratford for their contributions to this outstanding accomplishment.
