Hendrickson Truck Systems Group Headquarters Receives Environmental Award |
WOODRIDGE, Ill. – Hendrickson Truck Systems Group has received the Earth Flag award for environmental practices and is taking part in the global effort to improve our environment.
DuPage County awarded the Earth Flag on April 28, and presented a commendation citing Hendrickson’s efforts in recycling and overall environmental concern.
The non-profit organization, S.C.A.R.C.E. (School and Community Assistance for Recycling and Composting Education) operates DuPage County’s environmental education program, and presented the Earth Flag to Hendrickson representatives at the board meeting. The three-foot-by-five-foot Earth Flag features a blue background with a satellite picture of the earth.
S.C.A.R.C.E. recommends to the county which organizations should receive an Earth Flag, and the group’s founder, Kay McKeen, recommended Hendrickson because:
They have implemented a comprehensive recycling program consisting of scrap metal, paper, cardboard, aluminium cans, plastics and electronic wastes
They have partnered with Energy Star and have retrofitted lighting fixtures in an effort to reduce energy
They have initiated a “Watts Down” program requiring personnel to shut down computer monitors and lighting when not in use
They have eliminated the use of Styrofoam cups through the use of non-disposable ceramic drink ware
They have conducted an electronic waste outreach event permitting personnel to bring in electronic waste for proper recycling
S.C.A.R.C.E. has trained at least 75 percent of Hendrickson personnel on environmentally-friendly practices
